Bookkeeper

James Todd & Co is looking for a Bookkeeper to join our growing team in our Chichester office.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build or further develop their career within practice, supporting a varied portfolio of clients and gaining hands-on experience across bookkeeping, VAT, and management accounts.
You will be part of a supportive team environment, with the opportunity to develop your skills.
Key responsibilities
- Process bookkeeping data using cloud-based software such as Dext, Xero, Sage and QuickBooks
- Match, batch and code client documentation accurately
- Perform bank reconciliations
- Prepare and submit VAT Returns in line with deadlines and client requirements
- Prepare and submit CIS Returns
- Support the preparation of management accounts, including basic commentary
- Resolve bookkeeping queries, correct errors and post adjustments with support from senior staff
- Undertake other duties as required in line with the role

- Experience within practice
- Familiarity with software such as Xero, Sage, Dext and QuickBooks
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

Bookkeeping Assistant (Part-Time)

Hours: Part-time, office-based (c.21 hours per week)

About the role
James Todd & Co is seeking a Bookkeeping Assistant to join our team in our Chichester office on a part-time basis. The hours will be 22.5 to be worked either over 3, 4 or 5 days.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with data, has strong attention to detail, and is looking to build experience within an accountancy practice environment.
You will support the bookkeeping team with the accurate and timely processing of client records using accounting software, while working as part of a supportive team environment.
Key responsibilities
- Process high volumes of client documentation accurately and efficiently into accounting systems (primarily Sage)
- Match, batch and code client documentation
- Ensure correct VAT treatment is applied at all times
- Process client expenses as required
- Input and reconcile bank transactions in line with team requirements
- Assist with general bookkeeping tasks as directed by the Bookkeeping Manager
- Support the team to meet client deadlines and service standards
- Undertake other duties as reasonably required in line with the role

Accountant

About the role
James Todd & Co is seeking an Accountant to join our team in our Chichester office.
This is a key role within the Accounts team, supporting Portfolio Managers with the efficient and timely delivery of accounts, tax and wider client services. Working with a mixed portfolio of clients, you will take ownership of accounts preparation alongside supporting junior staff and contributing to overall team delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Preparation of year-end accounts for Limited Companies, LLPs, Sole Traders and Partnerships
- Preparation of corporation tax computations and returns using the CCH software suite
- Preparation and filing of personal tax returns, including dealing with client queries
- Work on file review points and prepare accounts packs and submission letters for clients
- Assist with ad hoc duties throughout the year, including P11Ds and ATED work
- Work within pre-defined client budgets and deadlines
- Mentor and support more junior members of the team
- Ensure compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements
- Work closely with colleagues to maintain quality standards and efficient processes
What we’re looking for
- AAT Level 4 qualified (or qualified by experience)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in accountancy practice
- Experience working with a varied client portfolio
- Strong accounts preparation and tax compliance knowledge
- Experience using accounting software and cloud systems
- Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Professional, reliable and a strong team player
- Confident communicator with good interpersonal skills
